The JavaScript programming language is being continually developed by a large group of contributors who are experts in the language but have varying familiarity with the specification mechanisms used to define it. To make these contributions possible with a small 3-person team of part-time editors while maintaining quality and editorial consistency, tooling is heavily relied upon. Additional software is used to make the JavaScript specification interactive and appropriate for the full variety of considered readers: implementors, developers (both newcomers and veterans), educators, researchers, historians, publishers, and more. We’ll take a look at these pieces of software, their responsibilities, the particulars of their integration, and the opportunities we see to improve and add to them.
